Intro to Narrative Improv Graduation Show

Show date:

After a 12 week journey, it was time for us students to graduate from the Intro to Narrative Improv course.

Rydia and Nithia have been incredible teachers and have helped us learn about the art of narrative improv, which takes your improv skills to the next level; actually, several levels.

In narrative improv, you need to be aware of every single thing that your performers say and do, and how it affects the story.

It takes a lot of practice to get good at it, but it’s definitely worth it, because it empowers you to create amazing stories that are both entertaining and meaningful.

Creating a character on the spot and making that character develop in a completely improvised fashion is a wild experience and it’s something that I’m really excited to continue doing.

❤️ Shoutouts & Roses

Roses to everyone involved! You all were fantastic and deserve to give yourself a pat on the back! (We live far apart, if it wasn’t like that I would give it to you personally!)

A VERY special rose goes to Citrine, they made it a major point to start the show only when everyone felt comfortable in showing up on stage.

Narrative improv is a really hard form of theatre, and one performance can easily last 40 minutes. So Citrine, like the goat that they are, decided to check in with everyone: “How is your mood?”, “How are you feeling?”, “Do you feel very bad stress? If you want to get out and not do it, we understand”.

These were the questions that they asked every single one of us, and when they asked me, I replied that I was, in fact, very, VERY nervous.

Citrine’s response was as follows:

“I’ve seen you perform before in shows and during this course, and I have no reason to think that you will do badly.”

These words managed to calm me down a bit - the necessary amount to go and perform for almost one hour!

So I really want to thank Citrine for making sure that not only me, but everyone involved, was keeping it together and keeping an open mind in case someone wanted out of it.
